CzeΕΔ friends and family!!
Well, it’s been another GREAT couple of weeks in PoznaΕ!! I’m so grateful to be here in this beautiful city!! Yesterday I was out of town doing legal work so my preparation day got moved to today!

Here’s a couple highlights:
TALENT SHOWS!!
One of the things I love about PoznaΕ is that there’s always something crazy going on in the city! Siostra Godfrey and I were planning in the park the other day next to a fountain when we started hearing music from across the park.We looked over and auditions for Poland’s Got Talent were going on!!They had a full set of bleachers set up and dancers and singers in all kinds of costumes who took turns performing on the stage! 10/10 the best way to end a planning session haha!!

CULTURE NIGHT
For our culture night, we went with Marta and the Womackβs to the castle at KΓ³rnik, about 30 minutes away from PoznaΕ. It was so beautiful inside. Half the time I feel like I’m in a fairy tale land hereβwe’re literally surrounded by castles!!

FOURTH OF JULY PARTY!!
On the Fourth of July, we planned to have a big English class celebration and we worked really hard to prep for itβwe invited everyone we could think of, prepped for a barbeque complete with burgers, chips, and all the toppings, and prepped some fun America trivia for class. We set a (somewhat high) goal of 15 people to come. And not only did we surpass our goal, we had 6 brand new people come!! It was such an awesome success and just the perfect way to celebrate π

ZONE CONFERENCE
We had Zone Conference last week and we got to meet our new mission president, Prezydent Chandler! Both he and Sister Chandler are AMAZING and I am so excited for what is to come! They both served their first missions in Poland almost 30 years ago, and now they’re here again!

At Zone Conference we talked about our personal relationships with Christ!! Before we can help anyone else come closer to Christ, we first have to have a relationship with him. And the more we work on our relationship with him, the more we can share His light with the people around us! We also accepted a challenge: starting last Monday to read the Book of Mormon in 40 days! We are just over a week into the challenge now, and I can say truly have never been so happy and so at peace as when I study the Book of Mormon everyday. Scriptures that I have read and heard before jump out at me in new ways, and I am learning so much!!

This week we also had a leadership meeting in Warsaw where we talked a lot about teaching and finding people by the Spirit. It was amazing because halfway through the meeting we took half an hour to go out into the street and put what we were learning into practice! We didn’t have any amazing conversations during that time, but I felt so spiritually renewed after!! It was great!

BACK TO THE BEGINNING :’)
And this weekend, I took a 6-hour train ride back down to the city I started inβKatowiceβto do legal work!! And the great news is everything went well so I’m good to stay in Poland!! π

I say this over and over, but I am SO GRATEFUL to be here in Poland sharing this beautiful message. We have a Heavenly Father who loves us and knows us individually. He knows our hopes, our dream, our desires, and our weaknesses, and He wants us to succeed!! We have the ultimate older brother, Jesus Christ, who lived and died for us. Because of Jesus Christ, we don’t have to go through any part of life aloneβHe is always by our side! NaprawdΔ wiem, ΕΌe On zawsze jest bliskoβ€οΈ

Kocham was tak mocno!! I love you all!! Have a wonderful week!!

This week has been a great one. I think something I have really been recognizing is growth this week. In myself, and in the people we are teaching! It has been such a good week!!

Friends we’re teaching:
– We’ve officially started doing skype lessons with some of the people we’re teaching!! On Sunday we had a skype lesson with one of the sweet girls we’re teaching, and honestly it was one of the best lessons we’ve probably ever had with her. She is young but she has continually read the Book of Mormon over the last several months and is almost at the end of 2 Nephi. For this last lesson she kept her commitment to read Nephi 29 and she was ready with a bunch of really amazing questions. What was even cooler was at the end of the lesson, we had her explain to us what the Bible is, what the difference between the Old and the New testament are, and how the Book of Mormon is a Second witness of Christ. It was amazing to see how much knowledge and what a beautiful testimony she has gained of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and of the Book of Mormon. I am so excited for her!! The Gospel of Jesus Christ is SO life changing!

And YES, as the title of this email suggests, we did become part of a Catholic parade (kind of). What really happened is that we were heading home on Friday and we were almost at our tram stop when a huge and I mean HUGE crowd of people started coming up the street. The literally hundreds a of priests and nuns and other people came down the street and there were so many people that we were literally pushed along. The trams were stopped all the way down the street. A ways down he street, everyone in the crowd started singing hymns together. it was probably one of the most beautiful things I have ever been a part of. It was one of those moments when you realize where you are and you are just so grateful!! And truly, I am so grateful for the mission. I am so grateful I get to share this beautiful message.

I love you all!! I hope you have a wonderful week!! Kocham was!!!

This week:
-We had exchanges with the Bydgoszcz sister missionaries and I got to be with Siostra Miller all day!! It was a total blast!!

-This week we had our LAST Zone Conference with Prezydent and Siostra Turek. They are both truly amazing and they will be so missed. At zone conference we talked about the Atonement of Jesus Christ. One of my favorite scriptures that was discussed is 1 Corinthians 15:22 –
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
And I know that this is true!! Because of Christ, we know that death is not the end. Through Jesus Christ and his Atonement, we can all be made alive!

This week, our district in PoznaΕ is splitting up! Starszy Wagley has finished his mission and is on his way home, and Starszy Posacki is headed off to Szczeczin, which means we don’t have Elders in PoznaΕ, just Sisters!! These next few weeks are going to be an awesome adventure!

This week was a great one to be in PoznaΕ- the weather has been pretty hot and humid recently and we’ve been busy!!

A couple highlights from this week:
We had our first sports night of the summer on Saturday and it was so successful!!! We had a few branch members, a few people we’re teaching, and some new friends we met contacting recently come!! We played volleyball and frisbee and it was such a good time:)

On Wednesday we had a leadership meeting (Called MLC) in Warsaw and it was amazing π Prezydent and Siostra Turek are so inspired!! It was also a really sad MLC because it was our last one with Prezydent Turek!! We’re getting a new mission President, Prezydent Chandler at the the beginning of July!!

Hej czeΕΔ friends and fam!! Hope you all have had a wonderful week!!
Here’s a couple highlights of this week:

This week we also got to volunteer at Parkrun, an organization that sponsors free 5ks every single week. We were in charge of directing the runners so they would all stay on course- it was pretty funny because Siostra Godfrey and I were cheering really loudly (for everyone that ran by- and usually Polish people don’t really cheer until the end of the race!! Several people came up to us afterward and we got to share who we are and what we do π

On Saturday we had our branch barbeque/ picnik and it was SO MUCH FUN!! We bought several of pizzas, drinks, cookies, and salads, and went to one of the beautiful outdoor parks here in PoznaΕ and played football (with an authentic American football!), frisbee, badminton, and a bunch of other games. The time went wayyy too fast!!

We also went out this week to Park Cytadela and drew the Plan of Salvation out in chalk this week, and Emyla (from the PoznaΕ branch!) and Michal (visiting from Lublin!) came out and helped us. We had several awesome conversations!!

This week was a little bit slower of a teaching week because most of our people are either taking exams or going home for the summer. We’re going to keep on teaching some through skype, but this also means we’re going to be out talking to people and finding people to teach! π
I hope you all have a great week! This gospel, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, is TRUE! I love you all!! Kocham was!

Hejka!! Hope you all have had a wonderful week!! Thank you for the sweet birthday wishes last week. π My birthday was wonderful!!
We had transfers this last week, and for the first time ever, I’m STAYING in a city more than a transfer. Siostra Aramaki and Siostra Gornichec headed off to ΕΓ³dΕΊ and GdaΕsk, and I was assigned a new companion β Siostra Godfrey! Sister Godfrey and I were in the same mission zone when I started my mission in Katowice and we even went on splits together once when I visited Krakow. We’ve already had some great adventures and teaching experiences this week and I can tell it’s going to be another amazing couple of months in PoznaΕ!!

Today I want to share a quick thought from a devotional address I read this week given by Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, titled “The Two Guiding Lights”. In this devotional, he explains that the Savior has given us two great beacons of light in our lives to help guide us through the storms of life. These two great lights are the first and second commandments. In Matthew chapter 22:37-38, we read:
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
https://speeches.byu.edu/talks/joseph-b-wirthlin_two-guiding-lights/
In these few short sentences, the Savior has provided us a foundation for everything we think, say, and do as disciples of Jesus Christ. When loving God and loving our neighbor is at the core of everything we do, we find increased direction and peace in our lives. Truly, we find ourselves when we lose ourselves in serviceβat least that’s what I’m discovering!! π

I love you all! Thank you for your love and support for me! Although sometimes I can’t respond to every email, know that I read every single one and I am so grateful for you all. I hope you have a wonderful week!!!

With Karol and Tosia!! They’re the BEST! Hej czeΕΔ family and friends! Jak tam!? It’s been an exciting crazy fun couple of weeks to be in PoznaΕ!!!
Okay so to start, we have our smartphones now!! Many of you might have noticed that I’m back on Facebook and Messenger! Our mission is now authorized to use online tools to help us do missionary work! This won’t change anything about communication (still emails on P-days!), but I’m so excited to see how this great change will help hasten the Lord’s work! π

Siostra Aramaki and I hit our 8-month mark together! We’ve had some amazing meetings with people we’re teaching recently:
- We had an awesome lesson with a girl we’re teaching this last week and she decided she wants to prepare to be BAPTIZED on June 22. Step by step, she’s building her faith in Christ as she is reading the Book of Mormon and praying. I’m so excited to see the changes she’s making in her life as she prepares for baptism!
- We had a great meeting with a less-active member yesterday after they came to church. We talked about the importance of Prophets and how amazing it is that we have a living Prophet today. The world might change over time, but the Lord never changes- throughout history, He has always called prophets on the earth to serve as the mouthpieces for God on earth!
- And we had another meeting with Nikola and her mom! We talked about the Plan of Salvation, meaning God’s plan for us. I’m so grateful I get to share such a beautiful topic with so many people!
And funny language moment: This week, as we were teaching Sunday School, I meant to say I was very thankful for something (Jestem bardzo wdziΔczna). Instead, and without even realizing it I said: “Jestem bardzo dziΔki“, which means “I am very thanks!!!” I couldn’t figure out why my companions were laughing but when they told me afterward we all laughed pretty hard! π Learning polish is such an adventure!

With BoΕΌena I was reading an Ensign magazine this week, and I came across an article that I’ve been thinking about ever since. God is the ultimate artist! There aren’t very many people who can sit down with a blank piece of paper and draw a beautiful landscape. I, for sure, can’t! But God is the creator. He is the ultimate artist. Not only did he create everything around us in beautiful 3-D, but he also created people, with all of our differences, personalities and talents. Not only did He create us, but He is our literal Father in Heaven and He allows us to call Him Father. He loves us and He knows each one of us so individually. And for that, I am so grateful.

Walking down the streets of PoznaΕ I hope you all have a wonderful week! Kocham was!

Hej czeΕΔ friends and family! This week I want to share an awesome teaching experience:
We just started teaching a great guy who heard about the missionaries, but didnβt take action until much later. Two years ago, he met the missionaries and played frisbee with them one day, and then just two weeks ago he remembered that the missionaries also teach a free English class. He showed up for the first-time last week and then participated in our religious discussion afterwards. During our discussion, he accepted a copy of the KsiΔga Mormona and scheduled to meet with us the following week. Our first lesson with him was this last week and he was very prepared with some great questions likes: “Why do you believe in God? Why do you believe in Jesus Christ? Why are you a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Why not another Church?”

I am so grateful for the knowledge that I have that YES, there is a Godβwe have a Heavenly Father who loves us and knows us individually by name. YES, Jesus Christ is the Savior! And YES, the same Church that Jesus Christ established when He was on the earth has been restored and is on the earth again today! I don’t just know these things because they have been written in the scriptures or they have been spoken of in Church. I know these things because I have searched for the answers, and I have felt the confirmation that these things are true! In The Book of Mormon from Alma Chapter 32, we can read about an ancient American prophet Alma who compares faith to a seed:

“Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselvesβIt must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me.”
and then in verse 33 he explains:
“And now, behold, because ye have tried the experiment, and planted the seed, and it swelleth and sprouteth, and beginneth to grow, ye must needs know that the seed is good.”
If we want to find answers to the questions our new friend had, whether the Gospel is true, first we need to have the desire to know. We have to really want it and be willing to work for our answer! And then, as we strive to listen to the word of God, to read the scriptures, to pray, and to ponder, we will receive our answer. I know this is true because I have taken Alma’s experiment myself! And I have received a personal witness that these things are true. The Spirit was so strong as we testified to this man that we CAN receive answers to our hard questionsβall it takes is us having the desire and the willingness to try.
I love this gospel, and I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to share this life-changing message. I love you all! Bardzo was kocham! I hope you have a wonderful week! π

Hej czeΕΔ friends and family!
As I consider my missionary experiences from this past week, I feel greatly blessed to be serving in PoznaΓ± with my two companionsβSister Gornichec and Sister Aramaki. We kept ourselves busy with teaching appointments and meetings, we spent time reflecting on the last week of the Saviorβs mortal life, and we celebrated with the Saints of PoznaΓ± the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! π

Here are a few highlights:
We had a terrific meeting with the sweetest girl we’re teaching. Our conversation focused on God’s plan for us as His children, and our purpose in life! We also talked about the meaning of the Atonement and how powerful it can be when we apply it to our own lives. The Spirit was so powerful as we testified of the power of the Atonement and the peace it brings!
Several people we are teaching are steadily progressing and it’s amazing to see them week after week, as they keep their commitments, read the Book of Mormon, pray, and grow so much spiritually! π
For our service project this week, we visited a non-profit hospicjum (hospice) here in PoznaΕ. The staff and residents are preparing for a huge festival the first couple days of May where, as their fundraiser for the year, they will sell hand-crafted and painted butterflies. Our project was to assemble and glue each butterfly. It was awesome!

On Sunday, I spoke in Sacrament Meeting on some of the varied and distinctly meaningful titles of Christ including Savior, Redeemer, Prince of Peace, Son of God, and Son of Manβand on how His Atonement and Resurrection are the greatest gifts we will ever know. It was the first time I wrote my talk in Polish (up to this point, I have written them in English first and then translated them into Polish). I felt especially fluent and was grateful to share my testimony with the members and guests of the PoznaΓ± branch. In addition to this weekβs special assignment of speaking, one of my regular weekly responsibilities is pianist for the congregation so I stayed quite busy during the meeting.
As I was preparing my talk, I found a General Conference address by President Ezra Taft Benson from October 1985. Included below are a few favorite sections:
“Yes, Christ changes men, and changed men can change the worldβ¦Men changed for Christ will be captained by Christ. Like Paul they will be asking, βLord, what wilt thou have me to do?β (Acts 9:6) Peter stated, they will βfollow his steps.β (1 Peter 2:21.) John said they will βwalk, even as he walked.β (1 John 2:6.) Finally, men captained by Christ will be consumed in Christ. To paraphrase President Harold B. Lee, ‘they set fire in others because they are on fireβ¦Not only would they die for the Lord, but more important they want to live for Himβ¦Enter their homes, and the pictures on their walls, the books on their shelves, the music in the air, their words and acts reveal them as Christians.”

‘Lucie‘ (Little Girl Drawing the Sun in the Sky) by David Mesguich, PoznaΕ, Poland Dearest friends and family,
It’s been another amazing week to be a missionary in Poland! Here are some highlights:
-We found out our mission is getting smartphones in a few weeks (No more little brick Nokia phones… WAHOO!!!) It’s going to be a total game changer for missionary work and we can’t wait! Group messages, Facebook, google translateβanything is possible! π
I promised I would talk about the amazing people we’re teaching more, so this week I’ll tell yaβll about Ola! Ola is the cutest young mom from Ukraine who has been learning about the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the last few months. She has such a beautiful spirit and always asks the best questions. This last week, we taught her about living prophets and watched one of President Nelson’s talks from General Conference with her in Ukrainian (I couldn’t understand anything, yet the Spirit was still SO STRONG!). Right away, she said that President Nelson was a wise man and Ola decided to pray more to know if he is really a prophet of God. I’m so excited for her to get her answer! π

This week I’ve been absolutely awestruck by the way the Lord leads us to the right place at the right time if we just listen. We were coming home one night and were already in our apartment building when we met the cutest 13-year oldβNikolaβand her mom. We were exactly in the right place to help them with something they really needed; and afterwards, they invited us to their apartment. We had the absolute best conversation and got to testify of Christ, that He knows us so individually and that He will put the right people in our lives when we need them. The next day they invited us back and we gave them Books of Mormon, shared our favorite verses, and taught them about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Meeting them was a total MIRACLE and was the total highlight of an already great week!

General Conference was this last weekend and it was AMAZING!! If you didn’t get a chance to watch it (or if you want to listen to it again!) you can check it out on churchofjesuschrist.org! I especially loved Elder Brooke P. Hales’ talk. He reminded us that God knows everythingβHe knows the past, the present and the future, and that sometimes the answer you get to a request is a βnoβ in favor of a later, better βyesβ! I testify that what he said is true!

Hey y’all, what a crazy week it has been!! Lots of things have happened. We had our second zone conference with all the White Mountain Missionaries. Man, that was a great experience. There have been many changes in our mission. We had about 50 missionaries who were here temporarily and have now been reassigned to their original foreign mission. Many of our friendships have been uprooted within the last couple of weeks as many of our missionaries are in new areas. I was looking forward to spending Christmas in Vernon but now Iβm in Show Low. The Lord is in charge, and I will make new friends here. This is my first Christmas away from home. We have many traditions such as gathering as an extended family on Christmas Eve and reading the Christmas Story in Luke 2 and caroling and eating Baldwin traditional treats like Church Windows (chocolate / marshmallow / coconut cookies), toffee, and milky way bread. I will be home again but for now I am enjoying Christmas in the mountains of Northern Arizona. Zone Conference helped us focus on the importance of Christmas and how our service here and now can make a big impact in the lives of those around us.
This first week of the new transfers brought some unique experiences. Upon arriving in Show Low and meeting my new companion Elder Epperson, I was contacted by a man who was infatuated with my Facebook page. He says he is deeply religious and he wanted to talk about everything with me except for the Gospel message which I am ready to share. His great interest in us is evidenced by his many phone calls and texts. I wish I had all the time in the world for everyone, but Iβm here to share the birth, and life, and ministry of Jesus Christ. Hopefully, this man will become more receptive to our message at some point; in the meantime, Iβll go where the Lord directs me. And thereβs no better time to be on a mission than during the Christmas season.

Throughout my mission, I have already seen many miracles. Today on my first Preparation Day in Show Low, I was at Walmart looking for some sharpies and a nice gentleman in his 30’s ask me: “are you looking for sharpies?β And I told him: βYes I am looking for some.β All of the sudden he goes searching in his wallet and pulls out a $20 bill; at which point, I wanted to say to him: βSir there is no need for you to give me this.β But before I could convince him otherwise, he had already walked off farther into Walmart and disappeared. WHAT A BLESSING THAT WAS! I am so grateful for the good people of Arizona who show their love towards the missionaries. This blessing may seem small, but there are plenty of them every week and they add up. The Lord looks out for his missionaries!
I testify that Jesus β the same who was born in a humble manger in Bethlehem β is the Savior of the world. At this Christmas season, I am grateful for the opportunity to celebrate His birth and to honor the faithfulness of many of those around Him. He is the true miracle of Christmas!
This time of the year is the time for all of us to look for those who may not have family to be around this christmas.
Β In 2nd Nephi 26:3 it says: “And after the Messiah shall come there shall be signs given unto my people of his birth, and also of his death and resurrection; and great and terrible shall that day be unto the wicked, for they shall perish; and they perish because they cast out the prophets, and the saints, and stone them, and slay them; wherefore the cry of the blood of the saints shall ascend up to God from the ground against them.”Β
This Scripture talks about the signΒ of Christ’s Birth. It is because of him that we celebrate Christmas. This is a special time of year where we open up our love and kindness towards others. I invite each of you this Christmas to find someone who may be spending Christmas alone because of the covid conditions we are in at this time. I also invite you all this Christmas Day to reach out to your friends and family to ask if they need any service.
Thank you all for the blessings and prayers π I pray for you all each day that you all can find peace and love.
I love you all and Wish you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS π πβ€
WITH MUCH LOVE AND GRATITUDE,
ELDER BALDWIN

Hey y’all,
Well transfers came up and much to my surprise, I was transferred from Vernon after serving here about a month. At first, I was disappointed to leave so many good developing friendships, but then I remembered that I am on Godβs schedule, and He knows where I need to be. At least will be staying in the mountains of Northern Arizona. I’m sure at some point I’ll live in the desert valley – but not yet, not now! This time Iβll serve in Show Low Arizona another small town with a population of about 12,000. I will be serving in the Paloma Ward.

This week we had a zone dinner at a memberβs house from the Pine Lakeside Ward. He even told me that I am invited back with Denali to go see him after my two years serving. I am missing Denali alot. He is my baby. I want to give a special thanks to my family Mami, Dad, Elizabeth, Sophia, Galilee for looking after my baby while I am gone. He really misses me so I have heard.
I learned a lot during my time in Vernon and enjoyed what I view as my Vernon family.

I pray for each of you each day. Thanks for the prayers and love. I really need it at this time. I am grateful for each of you. I am looking forward to the day I return home from my mission, but not until I have finished what I came to do.
I WISH Y’ALL THE BEST!! BUENE SUERTE AND LOTS OF LOVE!

This week, we received some horrible news that an Elder in another mission was shot multiple times and is in the hospital in very serious condition. The news particularly hit close to home as my companion Elder Wangsgard was deeply impacted. Here is what he wrote: βMy good friend Elder Fauber who was in my MTC district back in August was shot multiple times at his church while enjoying a game of basketball with some fellow missionaries and some people he was teaching the gospel to. I have no words to describe how I felt when I received the news other than numb. I hope and pray that he will be able to pull throughβ¦ A very dear friend bore his testimony and said that God has given us all agency to be able to choose for ourselves right from wrong and that sometimes He doesn’t interfere with people choices because they need to learn from them. I pray that the man who did this to my friend will be able to turn to Jesus Christ and be able to come back to the light. Thank you all for your prayers and support and love which you have shown me and that you are sending to Elder Fauber, his family, and the missionaries in the Birmingham Alabama mission. I love you all so much and I love Elder Fauber and I know that God is keeping him in His watchful care.
β (https://www.facebook.com/christian.wangsgard.1)
I am grateful that as missionaries we are on the Lordβs errand and we are under His care. Iβm sad that there is so much suffering in the world β sometimes what seems needless suffering, but I know that the Lord can comfort us in our afflictions. Father Lehi, an ancient Book of Mormon prophet, taught his son Jacob: βThou Knowest the greatness of God; and he shall consecrate thine afflictions for thy gain.β (2 Nephi 2:2) At this time, I unite my faith with the faith of all those who are praying that Elder Fauber be speedily restored to health.

Despite the bad, the missionary work must keep going. This past week was a crazy load of Service. I helped a family move from a storage space into their new home. I could see this family was very grateful for the work I put in to help them.
Sometimes on your mission you need to have some fun, for example Maybe having a Nerf War with your Cabin Mates at 6:00 in the morning or going to Ross Dress For Less to goof off and have fun.

If yellow is your color, just go with it! I have learned while out on my mission that God works on his own time. Many times I have prayed and waited for an answer. It takes time though. I appreciate so many of the families here in Vernon. Many of these families have reached out to me and my companion asking when they can feed us. I have to say there are many good cooks in Vernon Arizona.
Thanks again for the Love and Support! Buene Suerte ( Good Luck) this week and keep on Viben!! Until next week when I share more about my experiences here in Vernon Arizona!
With much gratitude and love,
ELDER BALDWIN β€ππ

Life in the Mountains of Northern Arizona The Best of Times, The Worst of Times
-

Hey Familia,
This week, after having experienced the love and fellowship of several families as I have served in Vernon, I reflected upon the strength of the family structure. I miss my family. I miss my dog Denali. But I know the reason I am on a mission is to strengthen families. I am here to serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because I know that by sharing His Gospel, I can strengthen the families around me.

In the short time I have served in Vernon, Arizona, I have come to know and love many families in the area. I have felt welcomed. I have enjoyed their hospitality, eaten meals with them including some nice Thanksgiving dinners. I have even felt welcomed as if I were a part of these families. I have learned from them and I have had the opportunity to share Gospel Principles with them and testify of the joy that comes from following the Savior through our words and actions. I have been blessed by them and I have left many with a blessing from the Lord. I donβt know how long Iβll serve in Vernon β I hope a long time, but I do know that I have already made lifelong friendships that I will want to keep after my mission.

I am enjoying my companionship with Elder Wangsgard β we are making great memories. He is very creative and courageous in sharing the Gospel. He is my trainer and will always have that singular distinction among the missionaries I serve with. When we were first assigned together, he posted these kind words about me: βElder Joshua Baldwin is a brand new missionary from Texas and has a great motivation to work! I am excited to see what this transfer will bring!!!β

I also enjoy the chance to serve with the other Elders in our area. This past week, I went on exchanges with Elder Leary β a roommate in my cabin and I learned a lot from him. He has been out for about four transfers. I guess thatβs how missionaries count age by how many places weβve been. But for now, Vernon is great and Iβm glad to be here!
I know for sure that families are forever because the Plan of Salvation is Proof of this. In Genesis 12:3 it says: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. This scripture speaks of the power of families. It is our responsibility to have and care for our families here on earth. Thanks again for the love and support you guys have given me while I have been out on my mission.
Buena Suerte (Good Luck) and Till we meet again Monday the 6th of Dec!
With Much Love,

In Thee Shall All Families of the Earth Be Blessed
-

Hey Y’all my week has been great. The area that I am in at the moment has some pretty sweet members of the church. Everyone here loves one another. I think it is so cool how all these members look out for each other. Sharing is caring, am I right?

This past Monday my District and I decided to go caving. I have been caving a few times before, but never as a missionary so the context was different. As a Boy Scout several years ago, I explored mining tunnels. I remember the blackness so well — I couldn’t even see my hand in front of my face. How important it was that I had a light with me to illuminate the way.

An Abandoned Mine Tunnel at Philmont Scout Ranch, Summer 2016 (I’m on the far left) As I explored this cave with my fellow missionaries, I realized that in this cave and in the caves of our lifes many things can happen and it is up to you to make it safely through the Cave and back out. Lots of mud and dirty water ugh! Symbolic of the temptations all around us and the importance of cleansing ourselves from sin. I am grateful for the faith and strength I have been given to resist temptation.

Good News! I was given a task to read the Book Of Mormon throughout my Mission and to underline interesting paragraphs. As of TODAY! I have reached THE BOOK OF 2ND NEPHI!!!! Wahooo!! I am growing and learning a lot as I read the Book Of Mormon. Each time I read this Book my day gets even better. You too can have the light of the Book of Mormon illuminate your path if you choose to at least read a chapter a day.
Buena Suerte And Talk Soon!!
With Much Love Elder Baldwin β€β€β€β€
These Are the Caves of Our Lives
-

How’s it going? This week has been slow but a great opportunity to learn. I am starting to figure out what to do during my time here and what the rules are. This week I taught 4 different families about the Plan of Salvation. This is a hard but interesting topic to teach. I appreciate the understanding we have from prophets and apostles that we were sent here to earth for a reason – to learn and grow; and one day after we all die, we will go to the spirit world where we will wait for the final judgment day to determine what level of heaven we will inherit. The three levels are Celestial Kingdom, Terrestrial Kingdom, TelestialΒ Kingdom. Each Kingdom has different aspects and perks. I want to go to the celestial kingdom for sure.
Life in northern Arizona is very unique. I live with three other missionaries in a cabin. We recently captured this photo of me perched on the second floor door frame of our two-story cabin. The door doesn’t really serve a purpose because if I were to walk through the door, I would tumble to the ground below and hurt myself. I’m not really sure if there ever was a purpose for that door. Maybe it was designed to lead to a stairway. Who knows? In its present form, that pointless door got me thinking about metaphorical doors that lead to nowhere. There are many pathways in life that lead to nowhere. They might seem to promise us riches and happiness, but in the end they leave us broken, abandoned, and unhappy.

I am serving a mission because I believe the doorway and pathway back to God is the most important door and path we can choose in life. It is important that we find a pathway with a purpose and hopefully that purpose involves our happiness and the happiness of our loved ones. Our ultimate goal should be to return to our Father in Heaven and live in an eternally happy state. One of my favorite scriptures is in 2 Nephi 2:25 and reads: “Adam fell that men [and women] might be, and men [and women] are that they might have joy.”

During my time lately, I have been involved in several service projects to help some new friends in the area. In one of the projects, we chopped wood.
I also helped this cool lady with drilling in some shelves in her laundry room. The dog in the picture is a trained attack dog. Her husband will wear a protective suit sometimes so the dog can practice his skills. I thought that was pretty cool. She even uses Polish words to tell them when to Search and destroy. Since my sister Elizabeth served her mission in Poland, I appreciate the connection with my Polish friend.

I am grateful for the dog I have and the willingness of my Mother to care for my close friend while I am away serving our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for two full years. Thanks for all you guys do and the messages and cards and gifts I receive every now and then. Until next Monday Nov 22, 2021

Doors That Lead To Nowhere

Hey yall this week so far has been a blast. I finally met my new comp and I think he is pretty cool.
So far this week has been a shock! I woke up at 3:30a just to make it to the MTC bus that would take me to the Salt Lake Airport. It was tiring to sit at the airport for two hours waiting for my flight to Scottsdale Arizona.

I am learning fast and growing too as well. I can see my self reaching out to more people to see how they are doing. It’s also making it a lot easier to talk to new people I have never seen before. Thank you to every one who has sent me packages and cards so far of love and support.

First Photo with the Arizona Scottsdale Mission President – President and Sister Smith 3rd Nephi Chapter 14:7 says ” Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
This scripture talks about going to the Lord in prayer if you have any question that you need answered. God is the key to happiness through prayer. He wants to hear from His Children. Thanks for all you guys do for me and for sending me wonderful cards of love and care. Until my next email next week on Nov 15,2021!

Meeting my trainer Elder Wangsgard for the first time BUENE SUERTE MIS AMIGOS!
Funny Story: I was originally scheduled to train at the Mexico City MTC, but was switched to the Provo, Utah MTC. 5 Missionaries from my Arizona Scottsdale District connected into Dallas from the Mexico City MTC on their way to Arizona. They missed their connection in Dallas and one of the senior missionary couples – Elder & Sister Lauritzen arranged the delayed missionaries stay at a relatives house, which happened to be President Moon (brother to Sister Lauritzen) in the Stake Presidency of the Plano Texas Stake. The missionaries stayed overnight at his house and knowing that I was also assigned to the same mission, President Moon invited my parents to come over. President Moon set me apart to begin my missionary service. He’s a great selfie-taker. π

And if you look at my Week 1 blog – Ghosts From the Past, it which I reenacted the iconic pose from my Mom’s picture when she was an MTC teacher, my parents recreated the picture. πππ

Goodbye Utah. β Hello Arizona!
-

Hola a Todos! This is my last week at the Provo MTC!! My experience here has been different from other experiences. Here I have enjoyed a stress-free, peaceful emotional experience. The environment itβs wonderful. Also, Iβve learned a lot and Iβve met great life-long friends and hope to meet many more out in the field of Service! I received my flight itinerary, and I will be checking out of the MTC around 3:00 AM on Monday November the 8th. Itβs a bittersweet moment because you love it here, but you are ready to go!
This morning we went to the temple again and I loved it. I love the Celestial room and this time what caught my attention was the enormous chandelier–itβs so huge even my Mom would be surprised to see it. Itβs beautiful!
Yesterday Tuesday Nov. 2nd we had a devotional by Jean B. Bingham (17th Relief Society President) and her husband Bruce B. Bingham. They gave fantastic talks on how we can better ourselves in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Here are some of Sister Binghamβs thoughts:
1: FAITH IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. Because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we are all able to partake of the Sacrament each Sunday and be made clean again through the power and faith in Jesus Christ.
2: KEEP AN ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE. When we are born and as we reach the age of 5, we think “Oh life will be great for us, and we will be happy forever. As we grow into adulthood, we learn that mistakes are part of life and that is where the atonement of Jesus Christ rolls in.
3: BE WILLING TO DO HARD THINGS. Missionary Life is not a 100-Yard Dash, it is a lifelong marathon. It is up to us to make the best out of it. When we trust in the Lord, He will give us strength to push forward in life.
4: SERVE OTHERS. This month will be just a small moment in your life but if you endure that moment well, God will Exalt thee on high.
A few remarks that Brother Bingham taught that I found quite interesting. He said that the power that comes from the priesthood is a result of healing. We as missionaries have the power to heal. Another interesting thought he said was that our goal here and after is to get families to, in, and through the Temple. By doing so, all families on this Earth can live together forever.

This is one of our Zoom Classes as part of my Virtual MTC Experience Prior to Coming to the Provo MTC The physical demands of missionary work is challenging. Keeping a missionary schedule is not easy. Waking up at 6:30 every morning ready to go is a challenge, but I have been able to keep a good pace and will continue to progress until I have mastered it. I know missionary life will provide me with opportunities to improve in many areas of my life and I welcome that.Β I have learned these past weeks about relationships and solving personal issues, doing laundry, managing resources, showing leadership, developing friendships and much more.Β
I feel my Spanish has improved much since I began my mission, and I am grateful for the opportunity to study in the morning and in the evening. One of the best things at the MTC are the teachers. I want to thank Hermano Ray and Hermana Richmond for their language skills and their desire for us to succeed. I also want to thank President Porter (MTC President) for enlightening me about the purpose of being a missionary and for making the effort to shake every missionaryβs hand. He has shaken mine a few times. π A big thanks to President Anderson, my Branch President, for his teachings and influencing me to have a different view in life. I will take the lessons Iβve learned from him into the field and back home. I feel grateful for the staff in the cafeteria for cooking for us and making sure there is always enough food to eat. Last but not least, a big thanks to all those who clean this amazing facility. It looks great!

THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE LOVE, SUPPORT AND CARE I have received so far while I have been on my mission, IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE!
Hasta La PrΓ³xima Semana Mis Amigos y Familia Cuando yo ya estΓ© en Scottsdale Arizona!!!! ππππ
On Becoming an Effective Missionary
-
Hola a todos! What a week it has been!! Time in the MTC goes by very fast because we stay so busy with language and Gospel studies. I enjoy the chance to take a break and often the cafeteria is one such place I can relax for a few minutes. This week, I was enjoying my favorite drink β raspberry lemonade. π Apparently, I was enjoying it too much because I spilt some on my black jacket. Little did I realize that the pink drink went through the jacket directly onto my white shirt β now turned pink in part of the front area. I wasnβt sure how to remove the stain. I considered the possibility that my white shirt was ruined. Before giving up, I had an idea. I went to the bathroom, got some soap from the dispenser, rubbed it on my shirt, and the pink stain came off. Much to my surprise and delight, the pink stain was gone!

We had a lot of rain this past week and the rain caused me to think about my Baptism Day. Just like the rain that washes away all the filth from the Earth, my sins were washed away when I was baptized. That was an important day for me because of the covenants I made with God to take upon me the name of Christ, remember Him always, and keep His commandments.

Christ is our great example: βThen cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of Himβ¦And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: and lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.β Matthew 3: 13,16-17. He invites all to come unto Him βNow this is the commandment: Repent, all ye ends of the earth, and come unto me and be baptized in my name, that ye may be sanctified by the reception of the Holy Ghost, that ye may stand spotless before me at the last day.β 3 Nephi 27:20
We had the visit of another General authority, Elder Budge of the Quorum of the Seventy. He gave a 40 minute talk. It shocked me to see how much information he put into his talk. I think his preparation took a Iot of work and I appreciate it. I have to say it was an amazing experience. He shared a few ideas that I loved.
- Idea #1. A Saint who keeps on repenting and glorifies God and shows that he or she loves him will receive the full Glory of the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the last day.
- Idea #2. We Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are sent off to find the lost ones and cry repentance unto them. These two ideas hit me the hardest. It made me ponder more of the purpose of my mission.

My Notes from Elder Budge’s Talk
One of my favorite Christ Paintings at the MTC
I also was given the opportunity to sing in the Missionary Choir for the Devotional. We sang Hope of Israel. That song is super powerful and grew my testimony. Here is a recent singing of that song led by our latter-day prophet President Russell M. Nelson
The tree you see in this Picture represents the Tree Of Life!!! This tree is found at the entrance of the Missionary Training Center (MTC). It was pretty cool to see this tree because it reminded me of the scriptures found in Genesis and the Book of Mormon where we learn about the Tree of Life:
βAnd the Lord planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every. Tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.β Genesis 2: 8-9.

βAnd it came to pass that I beheld a tree, whose fruit was desirable to make one happy. And it came to pass that I did go forth and partake of the fruit thereof; and I beheld that it was most sweet, above all that I ever before tasted. Yea, and I beheld that the fruit thereof was white, to exceed all the whiteness that I had ever seen. And as I partook of the fruit thereof it filled my soul with exceedingly great joy; wherefore I began to be desirous that my family should partake of it also; for I knew it was desirable above all other fruit.β 1 Nephi 8:10-12.
One of my all-time favorite pictures is this one of the famous Captain Moroni. This Man is Top Notch on my list of Book Of Mormon Heroes. Every time I think of the Scriptures, I think of him because of the type of man he was in the eyes of God. He stood for Family, Men, Women, Children and Religion. I want to do the same too.
I would love to hear from you, how your weeks have been and what you have been up to! Thanks again for all you have done for me, for teaching me and helping me become the man I am today! I hope everyone enjoys the rest of this week. Till the final week before I leave for the mission field in the Arizona Scottsdale Mission!!!!ππππ
Adios!!!! Y Buena Suerte!!!

Hey Y’all! This is Elder Baldwin. My first week here at the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, Utah has been a blast. I am so grateful to be participating in this great tradition of missionary service. Not long ago, my sister Elizabeth trained right here at the MTC for her mission to Poland. Now she studies at BYU and was able to pick me up from the Salt Lake airport and take me to the MTC. Along the way, we shared a traditional lunch with Uncle Ken & Aunt Jana.

My Dad also trained at the Provo MTC way back in 1991 for his mission to Hungary. And my Mom was an MTC teacher here in the mid 90’s sometime after her mission in Mexico. My sister trained in Polish, my dad trained in Hungarian, and I was originally scheduled to train in the Spanish language at the Mexico City MTC. Mexico City is where my Mom served her mission, but the rise of the Covid-19 delta variant changed the ability of Mexico to host foreign missionaries. This change to the Provo MTC was bittersweet. On one hand, I would have trained in the Spanish language in the land of my Mexican ancestors, but on the other hand, I really wanted to have the Provo MTC experience. So I’m very glad to be here!

My Mom Teaching at the MTC, 1994
My Sister at the MTC, 2019
My Dad with his MTC Teacher, 1991
The goal of a Missionary is to ‘Teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, The Son and the Holy Ghost.’ My goal as a missionary is to find those in need and teach them that God is looking out for them.

Yesterday 10/19/21 we had a devotional by Elder Jeremy R. Jaggie here at the MTC. He told us to picture thousands of people outside the Gates of Heaven waiting for us Missionaries to allow them to enter by the authority of God. I am glad I saw that devotional because it gave me a greater sense of my purpose here at the MTC. I am learning a lot and am very excited to serve for 2 yrs in the Arizona Scottsdale Mission, which covers eastern Arizona from Scottsdale (Phoenix area) and parts of western, central New Mexico.

Map of the Arizona Scottsdale Mission Today on my preparation day, I attended the nearby Provo Temple and felt the spirit Strongly. As I walked in, I felt that I was in God’s arms and that the world could not touch me. The Temple is the perfect refuge from the world.

In my dorm, we have a pull up bar for workouts. One of my dorm members decided to do pull ups and accidentally hit his head against the ceiling tile. As he went up to reset the tile, he found a bag just above his head inside the ceiling. The bag was filled with past Missionary stories. In one of the stories, I read of an Elder who was ‘Simping’ on a sister. In one of the stories, an Elder created a commandment that says “Thou Shall Not Simp” which means don’t go chasing after Sister Missionaries. Reading that made me laugh. πAnd another reminder of the Ghosts of the Past still making their presence felt at the MTC! π»π»
I really like the murals in the MTC, which share stories from the Gospel. This Picture portrays the Sons of Mosiah who were sent to preach the gospel to the Lamanites in the land of Ishmael. The verse I really like is found in Alma Chapter 18:41, which reads: “And he began to cry unto the Lord, saying: O Lord, Have mercy; according to thy abundant mercy which thou hast had upon the people of Nephi, have upon me, and my people.” I really like this scripture because it talks about asking for mercy through the power and blessings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am grateful for His Support!!!

This last pic is with Elder & Sister Rasmussen who have been called to serve in Italy. They are the parents of Jennifer Smith of the Smith family from our Plano congregation. I was happy to see that the MTC is a training place for missionaries going to far away places and, at the same time, a small enough community that occasionally I find familiar faces.

Tune in to Next week’s Email full of pictures and more of my experiences here at the Provo MTC. Good Luck to y’all and HURRAH FOR ISRAEL!!!!!
